Rev. Timothy Russell - UMC

Our Guest Minister for  September 17th, is Rev. Timothy Russell. He is an ordained elder in full connection in the North Carolina Conference. Rev. Russell is a native of Indiana and was reared in Indiana, Iowa and Florida. He has a B.S.W. from Florida State University and in 1984 received a Master of Divinity degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC. While in seminary, he served a field education assignment under the guidance of the Reverend Bill Cummings at Wilson Temple United Methodist Church in Raleigh, which led to candidacy in the United Methodist Church. In 1990 he was ordained an elder in the North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church.

Rev. Russell has served as the pastor of the Jerusalem and Zion churches in Warren County, St. Paul in Tabor City, as the associate pastor at Pine Valley in Wilmington and as the senior pastor at Wrightsville UMC in Wrightsville Beach. He served as the Wilmington District Superintendent in 2007-8, the Raleigh District Superintendent in 2008-9 and the interim Rocky Mount District Superintendent in 2010-11. Following the election of Paul Leeland to the episcopacy, Rev. Russell began serving as the Director of Ministerial Relations and Assistant to the Bishop on November 1, 2008. On July 1, 2020, he was appointed as the senior pastor of Horne Memorial United Methodist Church in Clayton. 

He and his wife Pam, the Director of Children's and Family Ministries at Edenton Street UMC in Raleigh, have lived in Clayton since 2008.
