May 27, 2018 Dr. C. Pierson Shaw, Jr. (Lutheran)
Our Minister of the Week is Dr. C. Pierson Shaw, Jr. He is a graduate of Appalachian State University, The Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary and received his PHD in Theology from The University of St. Michael’s College in the University of Toronto. Dr. Shaw is currently Adjunct Faculty at Lenoir Rhyne University and Pastor of Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hickory, NC.
April 1, 2018 Dr. Clay Warf (Baptist):
Dr. Warf is a graduate of Wake Forest University, Southern Seminary and Southeastern Theological Seminary. He has pastored numerous churches and currently is the Executive Director of the Baptist Foundation.
March 4, 2018 Dr. Stan Smith (United Methodist):
Our Minister for March 4th is Dr. Stan Smith. Dr. Smith is a retired United Methodist minister and lives with his wife, Ann, at Junaluska, NC. They have two sons, two daughters, and six grandchildren. Since their last visit, the oldest granddaughter has gotten married and had twin sons. Stan has been coming to the Chapel as Minister of the Week for 23 years.
March 11, 2018 Dr. Barry Jones (Baptist):
Our Minister for March 11th will be Dr. Barry Jones. Dr. Jones is associate professor of Old Testament and Hebrew at Campbell Divinity School, where he has taught since 2000. His research interests are in areas of the Old Testament Prophets, the Babylonian Exile and its aftermath, the Old Testament foundations of Christianity, and the art of teaching the Bible in the local church. He has taught and preached in numerous churches and retreats in North Carolina and the Southeast. He is currently researching leadership lessons to be found in the post-exilic prophets. Prior to coming to Campbell in 2000, Dr. Jones was a religion professor at Mars Hill College. His interests include bicycling, reading, and spectator sports. He is frequently an interim pastor, preacher, and guest teacher in churches across North Carolina. He and his wife, Beth, have two children.
March 18, 2018 Rev. Julia Peeples (United Church of Christ):
Our Minister for March 18th is Rev. Julia Peeples. Rev. Julie Peeples came to Congregational UCC in late September of 1991, having served with her husband, the Rev. Paul Davis, as chaplains for Habitat for Humanity International at Habitat headquarters in Americus, Georgia. They have two daughters, Meghan and Hannah. Julie grew up in Charleston, SC, graduated from Furman University in ’79 and from Andover Newton Seminary in ’83. Her ministerial experience includes working with homeless women in Boston, campus ministry at St. Vincent College near Pittsburgh, serving as a Minister of Christian Education and Family Life in a large UCC church near Boston, and the Habitat work. She enjoys pottery, reading, and camping.
March 25, 2018 Rev. Bruce Schlenke (Presbyterian):
Our Minister for March 25th is Rev. Bruce Schlenke. He and his wife, Libby, come from Pittsburgh, PA. Bruce is a retired minister in the Presbyterian Church U. S. A. having served Christ and His church in Akron, OH and Greenville, PA and concluding with 32 years as pastor of the Wexford Community Presbyterian Church in the Pittsburgh Presbytery. Libby is a recently retired elementary music teacher, and the Schlenkes have two married sons who are both public school teachers in western PA and northern VA. Rev. Schlenke is a native of Pittsburgh and a loyal Pirate and Steeler fan. He is a graduate of Houghton College in western New York and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in Massachusetts.
